About Us

The Special Friends Foundation (SFF) is a nonprofit organization established in 1997 by Chris and Carol Garavente.  Their son, Louis, is diagnosed with Rubinstein Taybi Syndrome.  The Special Friends Foundation is dedicated to providing information and resources to individuals with RTS and their families.  The Foundation provides assistance to cover expenses incurred due to RTS that are not covered by medial insurance or Medicaid.  SFF is honored to have worked directly with Dr. Rubinstein.  The Special Friends Foundation continues to work with  the University Affiliated Cincinnati Center for Development Disorders to support ongoing RTS research and the Louis Garavente Database for RTS research. 

The success of the Special Friends Foundation is made possible by the generous donations made by “Special Friends” to the Foundation.  This generosity enables the SFF to be a special friend, in helping children with RTS and their families to have access to the resources they need.  It is in a loving home, that each child will reach their greatest potential.
